The Habitat ReStore

Paul Belisle, a retired Lewiston businessman and longtime Androscoggin Habitat volunteer, is leading the effort to set up the store. Letters were sent to lumber suppliers and plumbing supply houses suggesting: "Anything you want to get rid of, call us first."
Belisle said the ReStore has received valuable donations of business equipment including racks and shelves , lighting and a cash register. Still needed: a pallet mover.
Paul prefers that donated items be delivered to the warehouse but it is possible that some items can be picked up if volunteers are available.
Anyone who would like to donate items or volunteer at the store should call Paul at 576-5286.
Items for sale in October included kitchen and bathroom cabinets and tops, lighting fixtures, kitchen sinks, stovetops, a Jenn-air grille, a whirlpool tub, blow-in insulation, kitchen fans with hoods, and an abundance of windows and doors. "Our space is packed with stuff," he said.
Belisle noted that donations are coming in at a steady pace. He was making arrangements to pick up 35 windows from Leavitt High School in Turner, items remaining from a remodeling project.
The ReStore is not a new idea. Habitat chapters around the United States and Canada already are operating more than 500 similar ReStores.
Before the ReStore was started, Androscoggin Habitat had to decline many donations of material from businesses and individuals due to lack of storage space.
